Knight Racing Services was formed in 1994 as a part time business by Peter Knight, a racer himself, who noticed that most of the engine specialists he used built American V8’s as a sideline to their core business of smaller European engines.

Not getting the results he wanted, he set about building his own engines. Soon he was building engines for other racers & sorting out their engine problems. As often happens, demand soon outstripped supply, and Peter found himself building engines full time by Christmas 1996. A chance meeting with AC Cobra racer Bill Shepherd saw Peter take over the preparation of Bill & Andy Shepherd’s FIA & Intermarque Cobra engines. For the three years that followed, Bill won the championship three times, and dominated his class, setting new lap records at most circuits.

Setting up a new dyno facility in 2001 meant that more time could be spent on testing & development, and in 2001, RML awarded Peter the job of preparing their own Saleen S7R engine, which went on to win the European Le Mans championship outright. Again in 2004, RML called upon Peter again the look after the engines in the Mike Newton owned, RML operated Saleens, which successfully completed all the endurance races entered with no engine failures.

Now the work is evenly spread between historic, short oval, drag racing & modern GT engines, which is a wide spread of technologies, with the American V8 as the theme.
